I’m so bored!
Have you ever said that? Do you have kids that say that?
July is Anti-Boredom month and this got me thinking. I think that I have had a few moments of boredom because living with autoimmune disorders can cause me not to be able to do all of the fun things that I like doing. This is a time when negative thoughts can creep in and stop me in my tracks from trying new things.
Verse for today:
Philippians 4:11 Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am.
My Top 7 Boredom Busters
First figure out if your bored or do you have the “blahs?” Boredom and blahdom are two different things. (There I made up a new word!)
To me, boredom is when I become bored with my same old routine. Blahdom is when I have a small case of the blues and I don’t know what I want to do. Blahdom doesn’t last long for me. Usually just a few minutes because my creative juices start flowing and I start looking for something creative to do.
Make a “bucket list.” What better time to create your “bucket list” than when you are feeling bored?
This is a great opportunity to create and organize your list from the:
- easiest to the more difficult
- inexpensive to the most expensive
- closest to home to farthest distance needing to travel
Once you have your list made, post it where you can always see it and immediately get to work checking the items off.
Get creative with your “bucket list.” Make it colorful, add pictures as you go through your list. Have fun with it.
Get into DIY. Are you a DIYer? There are so many channels on YouTube that can help you discover new projects and ideas for you, your home, or to make for other people.
I have found a few channels and I have fallen in love with the Dollar Tree stores. These ladies whose channels I subscribe to are super creative and have a creative eye like I have never seen before.
Dazzling Designs by Denise was the first DIY channel that I fell in love with. Denise is so creative. Her designs are lovely and her videos are very relaxing to watch and listen to. I binged one afternoon on her videos and was inspired to start trying some of her ideas.
Bargain Bethany was my second DIY channel. Bethany is from Chicago and this girl is talented! She also does make-up designs that are out of this world. Bethany is another DIYer that has an eye for taking an everyday object and turning it into something amazing and it is super affordable.
Here is a link to Bethany’s decorative mirrors. I love these hand held mirrors and they would be a perfect gift for the little girl that love princesses.
Give yourself a makeover. I love doing this for me and I always feel so much better when I do it. It will also spark some new ideas and creativity for the closet.
I am addicted to thrift stores. My whole wardrobe is second hand except for those “unmentionables” and yoga pants.
This is what I do before going to a thrift store:
- Set a budget. I can purchase a lot of items for only $20.
- Select a color. What color is missing from my wardrobe that I would like to add?
- Select the pieces. Do I need a skirt, pants, blouse, sweater, jacket or purse?
Next, I need to check out my hair and makeup and decide if that needs some updating.
Get moving! There is nothing better than exercise to get boredom out of the picture. I like to treat myself to a new piece of workout equipment or workout program to get me moving.
Exercise is going to release the endorphins you need to put you in a positive mindset and spark creativity. It will to help you trim down a few inches here and there and maybe lose a pound or two.
One activity with a bundle of benefits!
Volunteer. There is nothing better than taking time to help someone in need. There are few things you can do:
- Volunteer at your local pet shelter if you love animals.
- Volunteer at your local homeless shelter.
- Do you love to cook? Make an entree or dessert for your local shelter and deliver it before dinner.
- Volunteer for Meals on Wheels.
- Volunteer at your local hospital. I was a candy striper when I was a teen. It was fun!
Visit your local library. Start a reading list or join a book club. There are so many great books to read or to listen to and let’s face it, the stuff on television leaves a lot to be desired.
Check out the DVD section for classic television shows and movies. I have been enjoying my selections. I just watched “Miracle in the Rain” with Jane Wyman and Van Johnson. “Miracle in the Rain” is a wartime romance about a lonely man and woman who meet one rainy afternoon in New York. I give it 5 stars!
Start a new hobby. When you are feeling bored start a new hobby. There has to be something that you have always wanted to do in your spare time. Is today the day that you will check into it and get involved? A new hobby is a great way for you to relax and spend quality time with yourself. You can also listen to an audio book while you work!
I hope these ideas will help the next time you ever feel bored. Please share in the comment section below, what you do to stop the feeling of boredom.
