Organization was my word for yesterday. I had to open up that hallway linen closet and get it organized. That is one of those closets where I open the door quickly and toss whatever I have in my hand and close the door hurriedly, so that what I threw in doesn’t fall out.
It’s all organized and ready for me to add more items.

What does organize mean?
Webster’s dictionary says this:
- to arrange and plan (an event or activity)
- to arrange or order things so that they can be found or used easily and quickly
- to put things into a particular arrangement or order
When you make the decision to live a healthy lifestyle you have to start organizing your calendar, cabinets, refrigerator, closets, menu plans and exercise programs.
Organize Your Menu Plan
All diets work until we lose focus or interest. Do you have a program picked out to help you lose weight? If you have diet books on the shelf that you look at as you walk by and tell yourself that you will get serious one day and begin using one of them, let today be that day.
If you have a stack of diet books and you have tried them all, pick out two that you had success with. Go through each book and remind yourself why you liked the eating plan. Choose the one that interests you the most and that you can stick with for thirty days. After the thirty days are over re-evaluate and decide if you want to stick with this plan or do you want to shake things up a little bit and try plan number two for the next thirty days.
The next thing you want to do is pick out three of the suggestions for breakfast, three of the suggestions for lunch and three of the suggestions for dinner that you like and can eat repeatedly during your first thirty days. Many people who are successful with losing weight and keeping it off eat the same meals over and over.
I have a favorite breakfast, lunch and dinner that I really never tire of: 1 hard boiled egg and three egg whites and two slices of raisin toast with strawberry jam or 1 container of yogurt and two slices of raisin toast with strawberry jam. Lunch is usually chicken stir-fry. Dinner is usually a cup of Progresso soup.
Organizing your menu will help keep you focused so you are not always wondering what is for your next meal. Anything that you can prepare ahead of time and then throw together is a huge plus!
Next, organize your shopping list. When you eat healthy, you really do shop on the outside perimeter of the store. The only items I usually buy from the center of the store are soups, cereals, teas, coffees and cooking oils.
Organize Your Exercise
Organizing your exercise program for the first thirty days of your new lifestyle is as easy as walking. In my previous blog post I spoke about the importance and ease of walking as an exercise, so let’s just stick with that as a good foundation for our exercise program.
Organize Your Calendar
Pencil yourself into your calendar for shopping, meal prep, and exercising. These three things are very important in your healthy lifestyle and you need to keep them on the calendar.
Organize Your Refrigerator and Kitchen Cabinets
I have talked about organizing the refrigerator in a video and previous blog posts. Get rid of the unhealthy stuff and put in the new healthy foods, it’s as easy as that!
Get new plastic ware to keep your foods fresh. Toss out the mismatched containers and lids.
Don’t look at getting organized as a chore, but look at it as a new tool that you will have to help you reach your goal of becoming a healthier more productive you.
